The Museum of California Design’s 5th annual Award Benefit and Auction will honor California designers Evelyn and Jerome Ackerman for their exceptional contributions to American design. For more than 40 years the Ackermans created tapestries, ceramics, metal wares and mosaics for their Los Angeles-based firms, Jenev Design Studio and ERA Industries.

The Benefit, which will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2008, from 3 PM to 6 PM,  will be hosted by David Bohnett and Tom Gregory at their soaring Mid-century Modern Holmy Hills home that was designed in 1954 for Gary Cooper by the clebrated Los Angeles architect A. Quincy Jones. Bohnett founded the Internet-based media and e-commerce company GeoCities and is Chair of the David Bohnett Foundation. Gregory is an actor, radio personality, and entertainment industry commentator.

The Ackermans’ work was represented in several of the landmark California Design Exhibitions that were held at the Pasadena Museum
of Art in the 1960s and 70s and at the Pacific Design Center in 1976. Their work is in the permanent collections of a number of museum collections among them the Renwick Gallery at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., the Oakland Museum and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

The Benefit will include an award ceremony, a live auction conducted by Peter Loughrey, founder and principal auctioneer of LA Modern Auctions, and a silent auction. Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served and valet parking will be provided. The event is wheelchair accessible.
